Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
At Silver Pines, our facilities provide whole-person, holistic treatment for alcohol addiction, substance use disorder, and dual diagnosis.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is “the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a ‘whole-patient’ approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.” At Silver Pines, medication-assisted treatment for substance abuse is a vital component of our treatment. We believe that utilizing various types of MAT therapy like Suboxone and Vivitrol provides our clients with the resources they need to get on the path to recovery from various addictions.
What Is Suboxone?
Suboxone, a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, is one of the most common types of MAT therapy used to reduce withdrawal symptoms. This treatment tightly binds to the same receptors in the brain as other drugs; therefore, Suboxone blocks intoxication from other drugs, helps with cravings, and reduces withdrawal symptoms. When included in a recovery plan, Suboxone reduces cravings and helps relieve pain, increase calmness, improve overall well-being, reduce stress levels, and help clients engage in treatment.
Silver Pines’ clients are welcome to use Suboxone or any other type of medication-assisted treatment for substance abuse we offer as they begin their journey to long-term addiction recovery. By allowing clients to utilize Suboxone, we aim to give our clients the highest chance of success in navigating the early days of recovery. Ultimately, we strive to help individuals suffering from various addictions develop the tools to engage and communicate as they participate in our treatment programs.
What Is Vivitrol?
Vivitrol is a medication regularly used as part of treatment at medication-assisted treatment centers. Vivitrol can be administered via an injection or taken in pill form. A Vivitrol prescription typically follows medical detoxification in the treatment process as it helps curb cravings for alcohol or drugs, which decreases the risk of relapse.
Benefits of Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment programs help individuals reduce their cravings and normalize their body functions, allowing them to focus on treatment and recovery in a calming environment. Of course, medication-assisted treatment programs aren’t effective without a comprehensive and engaged addiction recovery approach. Like other treatments, medication-assisted treatment is most successful long-term when combined with therapy and counseling to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Medication-Assisted Treatment For Opioid Use Disorder
At Silver Pines, medication-assisted treatment is an important part of opioid detox and opioid addiction treatment. Our medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction may include prescription medication like Vivitrol. This medication blocks the release of dopamine if individuals in recovery take opiates, so it can prevent a slip-up from becoming a full-blown relapse. Other medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction can include Suboxone.
