This group says that the leading cause of death in 17 states across the country is prescription drug abuse. Nearly 2,500 teens get high on prescription drugs for the first time every day. In 2009, there was a 13% jump in the number of 12-year-olds who use prescription drugs for non-medical use.
Women Had a 400% Increase in Prescription Overdoses
The number of women who fall victim to prescription painkiller overdose
continues to rise. Since 1999, this number has increased
more than 400%. The CDC says that there was only a 265% spike among men.
